Rene Magritte,The Treachery of Images

The work explores the relationship between the representation and the meaning. It highlights the absurdity of paintings expressing realism, provoking emotions feelings of emotion which could be used as propaganda. 

This image resemble’s a pipe. But the text says its not a pipe in french. Context applys the idea while it looks like a pipe, it cannot be used like one.

What came after the world war was the cold war, in which there was a fight between ideologies of  Communist vs Capitalism. With many propaganda set by the USSR that have turn countries in europe to communism, The US has called to many artist to create something uniquely american; something thing that expresses freedom, which made Abstract Expressionism the ideal art for this propaganda.

A type of art expressed by Indigenous people. Usually made in home that is used like a talisman for someone sick, The artist would create pieces of art in sand and destroy them by tossing the sand around.
