What is sensation?
The process initiated by stimuli acting on sensory receptors.
What are the four types of sensory receptors?
Mechanoreceptors, chemoreceptors, photoreceptors, and nociceptors.
What do mechanoreceptors detect?
Compression, bending, stretching of cells (touch, pressure, hearing, balance).
What do chemoreceptors detect?
Molecules that bind to receptors on membranes (taste, smell).
What do photoreceptors detect?
Light (vision)
What do nociceptors detect?
Pain due to mechanical, chemical, or thermal damage.
