  • Carl Rogers

  • argued that for personal growth to be achieved an individuals concept of self (the way they see themselves) must be similar to (have congruence with) their ideal self (the person they want to become)

  • if there is too much of a gap, self-actualisation will not be achieved

  • to reduce the gap Rogers introduced client centred therapy
