What is genetic complementation

Mating 2 organism with similar mutants phenotypes resulting in wildtype offspring

What genetic complementation does

Distinguishes mutations in same or different genes, test ability of 2 mutant to overcome each others deficiencies, mating of 2 pure breeding mutants for similar mutant phenotype, only works with recessive mutations

If complementation occurs

wild type offspring, mutation on 2 different genes

If fails to complement

mutant offspring, mutation on smae gene

Complementation analysis

multiple crosses of numerous purebreeding mutants

Complementation groups

mutation that fail to complement eachother, all mutation in same gene

intra-genic complemnentation

different mutation on same gene interact, show some complementation even when in same complementation group

How to find intra-genic complementation

first find complementation groups, see if any complementation in same group, need further mappping to detect (protein analysis)
