Gender

The attitudes, feelings, and behaviors that a culture associates with a person's biological sex

Sex

The biological distinction between females and males

Gender Typing

The acquisition of a traditional masculine or feminine role. Imitation and reward alone do not explain gender identity

Androgyny

Displaying both traditional masculine and feminine psychological characteristics

Gender Identity

Our personal sense of being male, female, none, or some combination of the two regardless of sex at birth

Distinct from sexual orientation

Chromosomes

23 from mom, 23 from dad

45 unisex, same for everyone,

XX - Female

XY - Male

Aggression

Any physical or verbal behavior intended to harm someone physically or emotionally

Relational Aggression

An act of aggression intended to harm a person's relationships or social standing

Male Answer Syndrome

Men are more likely than women to hazard answers rather than admit they don't know

Mansplaining

Explaining something to a women in a condescending and somewhat incorrect way

Interdependent

To mutually depend on one another

X Chromosome

The sex chromosome found in both males and females

An X chromosome from each parent produces a female child

Y Chromosome

The sex chromosome found only in males

Androgen

A male sex hormone

- Testosterone is the main one

Estradiol

A female sex hormone

- Type of estrogen

Klinefelter Syndrome (XXY)

A genetic male being born with 2 or more X chromosomes and a Y chromosome

- Results in sterility and small testes

Turner Syndrome

A genetic female born with only one normal X chromosome

- Results in not having period, or woman body development

Gender-affirming Surgery

A surgical procedure that changes a person's sex organs and gender features

Binary

The personal sense of feeling male or female

- Only involving two options

Gender Expression

How one expresses their gender

Ex. Clothing, interests, and posessions

Intersex

A-typical chromosomes
