When the activity becomes the single most important activity in the persons life and do inmates there thinking and feelings and behaviour

When the individual requires increased doses of the substance in order to achieve the effects originally produced by lower doses.

When an individual reduces or stops the addictive activity

Relapse

When the individual repeatedly reverts to the earlier patterns of excessive engagement in the activity after having given them up

When the individual chooses short-term pleasure
