If you know or can see your hands are dirty or contamited

Before going home or on break

when entering a patients room or the draw lab, before gloving

After the procedure ,following glove removal

Washing hand when contaminated with blood

use an anti-microbial soap during washing

after washing with soap once coat your hands in 50% isopropyl or Ethyl Alcohol and air dry for at least 60 seconds once the alcohol has dried wash your hands with anti microbial soap again

how long should you wash your hands

20 seconds

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment

acts as a barrier between the medical professional and the patient for the protection of both, Typically non-sterile latex or n on-latex gloves are the only PPE word during Venipuncture

PPE Required for phlebotomy

If gloves become soiled during a procedure change them as soon as its safe to do so.

Infectious waste

Any pierce of equipment that has been directly exposed to a patien ts blood could pose a risk.

Isolation procedures

A patient in isolation is either at an increased risk of infection, or poses an increased risk of infection to others ,isolation is a protection, either for the patient or those around them.

If a patient is in isolation

There will be a sign outside the door their room to alert visitors and staff about the risk
