What has caused the social and economic problems and when did they start

The civil war, which began in 1956 due to ethnic disputes between the Arab north and African south, along with many droughts meant that Sudan relied heavily on food aid with most of the shortages being concentrated near the capital, Darfur.

What is the geography of Sudan

It is a desert in the north but becomes grassy and swampy in the centre. The Nile flows towards the east of Sudan and has many of the major cities along it. However Darfur is towards the west. Sudan borders the red sea in the north east and is where port Sudan is.

What struggles have been experienced in Sudan

There has been alot of displacement and a lack of drainage, toilets, and medical facilities and many people take illegal refuge near the airport to get aid. Many children also experience malnutrition

There was a referendum held in 2011 where the south sudanese population decided they wanted to be independent

The government won’t provide anything to people taking refuge outside their village but they won’t return as they are scared of the military
