Job Analysis (JA)

Job Descriptions
Summary reports that identify, define, and describe a job as it is actually performed.
Job Specifications
Indicate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics needed to perform a job.
Performance Standards
Define acceptable performance criteria and serve as the basis for performance assessments.
Job Family
Broadly similar jobs that make up one category, e.g., HR, Legal, Marketing.
Job Task
The entirety of tasks performed by one employee that comprise all work assignments.
Employee Characteristics
Skills and knowledge required for a job, including professional, technical, verbal, written, and leadership skills.
Data Collection Process
Methods for collecting job analysis data, such as questionnaires, interviews, and observations.
Competency Model
Broadly applicable knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for success in a given job.
Job Design
The process of defining how work will be done and the tasks that will be required to fulfill an organization's needs.
