Anatomy
The study of body structures.
Gross Anatomy
The study of large body structures visible to the eye.
Microscopic Anatomy
The study of structures too small to be seen by the naked eye, often using a microscope.
Physiology
The study of body functions and the operation of specific organ systems.
Structural Organisation
Hierarchy of levels in the human body, ranging from chemical to organismal.
Organ System
A group of organs that work together to perform complex functions.
Integumentary System
Forms the external body covering and protects deeper tissues from injury.
Skeletal System
Protects and supports body organs, providing a framework for muscles.
Muscular System
Allows manipulation of the environment and produces heat.
Nervous System
Controls and coordinates functions by responding to internal and external changes.
Endocrine System
Glands that secrete hormones to regulate processes like growth and metabolism.
Cardiovascular System
Transports blood which carries oxygen, nutrients, and wastes.
Respiratory System
Keeps blood supplied with oxygen and removes carbon dioxide.
Digestive System
Breaks down food into absorbable units and eliminates indigestible waste.
Urinary System
Eliminates nitrogenous wastes and regulates body fluid balance.
Lymphatic System/Immunity
Picks up leaked fluid from blood vessels, disposes of debris, and houses immune cells.
Necessary Life Functions
Include movement, responsiveness, digestion, metabolism, excretion, reproduction, and growth.
Survival Needs
Essential elements for human survival: nutrients, oxygen, water, normal body temperature, and atmospheric pressure.
National Health Priorities
Key diseases or conditions identified by the Australian Government affecting the population.
