Titration
A volumetric analytical method used to determine the concentration of an unknown solution by monitoring its reaction with a solution of known concentration.
Equivalence Point
The point in a titration where stoichiometrically equivalent amounts of reactants have reacted.
Endpoint
The point in a titration method signified by a color change, often indicated by an indicator.
Phenolphthalein
An acid-base indicator that is colorless in acidic and neutral conditions, and pink in basic conditions.
Acetic Acid
The main component of vinegar; an organic acid with the chemical formula CH3CO₂H.
Carboxylic Acids
A larger class of organic compounds that contain a -COOH functional group.
Standardization
The process of determining the molarity of a titrant by titrating it against a primary standard.
Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate (KHP)
A primary standard used to standardize sodium hydroxide solutions, represented as KHC8H4O4.
Primary Standard
Extremely stable solids used to prepare standard solutions of known concentration.
Titration Reaction
The chemical reactions between an acid and a base, such as CH3COOH reacting with NaOH.
