What is the function of the immune system?
To protect the body from harmful pathogens like bacteria, virsues, and fungi. it detects and destorys them to keep the body healthy
What are memory cells?
Specialized immune cells that remember a specific pathogen after the first infection. if that sme pathogen enters the body again, memory cells respond quickly to prevent another infection
Primary vs Secondary Immune response
Primary: the bodys first reaction to a new pathogen. Slow because body needs time to recogknize the new pathogen and create antibodies.
Secondary: faster and stronger because memeory cells recogknize the pathogen and quickly produce antibodies.
What is artifically required active immunity?
This happens when you recieve a vaccine that contains a weakened version of a pathogen. your body responds by making antibodies + memory cells, giving you protection.
Antigen vs Antibody
Antigen: a foreign subtsance like a virus or bacteria that triggers an immune response.
Antibody: a protein made by B cells that helps destory the antigen.
What are some diseases/disorders appart of the lymphatic/Immune system?
Allergies
tonsilitis
immunodeficeny
lymphoma
What are some diagnostic tests for these systems?
Blood test: check for immune cell levels, antibody presence
Lymph node biopsy: examines lymph tissue
imagung (CT, ultrasound): visulizes lymph nodes
