Pineal Gland
Releases melatonin and regulates the sleep-wake cycle.
Thyroid Gland
Releases thyroxine and triiodothyronine; regulates growth, development, and metabolism.
Thymus Gland
Helps with the immune system.
Pancreas
Releases hormones to regulate blood glucose levels (corrects hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia).
Ovaries
Release ova and regulate estrogen/progesterone release.
Testes
Regulates the hormone that leads to the development of secondary sex characteristics in men.
Adrenal Gland
Releases hormones causing vasoconstriction, increased HR/BP, decreases inflammation, or retains Na and H2O.
Parathyroid Gland
Releases and maintains calcium levels in the body.
Pituitary Gland
Found in the diencephalon region of the brain and works closely with the hypothalamus.
Hypothalamus
Signals releasing hormones to the anterior pituitary gland and signals the release of ADH and Oxytocin.
Growth Hormone
Predominantly released during adolescence to help with tissue and body growth.
Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH)
Stimulating hormone that targets the adrenal medulla and adrenal cortex.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
Stimulating hormone that can be altered by the levels of thyroxine and triiodothyronine levels in the body.
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Responsible for maturing ovarian follicles and sperm development.
Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
Responsible for promoting ovulation and the release of testosterone.
Prolactin
Responsible for the production of milk.
Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) / Vasopressin
Responsible for increasing blood volume and decreased urine output.
Oxytocin
Responsible for the release of milk from the mammary glands and causes uterine contraction.
