Magnetism
the force that causes some materials, like iron, to attract or repel each other without touching
non contact force
a push or pull that acts on an object without physically touching it,
magnet
a material or object that produces an invisible magnetic field, allowing it to attract or repel other magnets and pull ferromagnetic
repel
to forcefully drive something back, hold it off, or refuse it
attract
to draw something or someone toward oneself, either through a physical force (like a magnet pulling iron) or by appealing to emotions, senses, or interests
Iron Fillings
tiny, fine fragments or powder of iron, often a byproduct of filing or grinding metal
Magnetic Field
an invisible force field surrounding magnets, electric currents, or changing electric fields, representing the magnetic influence
Magnetic field lines
imaginary lines used to visualize a magnetic field, showing both its direction and strength
compass
a navigational tool with a magnetized needle pointing north
Dipolar
having two poles, often referring to molecules with separated positive and negative electrical charges
Earth’s poles
geographic (True North/South) and magnetic (North/South Magnetic Poles)
Magnetoshpere
region of space around a planet where its magnetic field dominates, acting as a protective shield against harmful charged particles from the solar wind.
Electromagnet
a temporary magnet created by passing electric current through a coil of wire, usually wrapped around a ferromagnetic core
electric current
the flow of electric charge (like electrons or ions) through a conductor or space, measured in Amperes
