What is incomplete dominance, and give an example

When neither gene in a gene pair is dominant so a blend of the two alleles results, and both alleles affect the trait seen. F1 hybrids have an appearance somewhat in between the phenotypes of the two parental varieties. Ex: Japanese 4 o clock flowers.

2
New cards

What is Co-Dominance?

Both alleles are expressed in the phenotypes, both alleles are expressed in the genotype. And both alleles are capitalized. Colors are expressed equally Ex. some chicken breeds.

3
New cards

Name the difference between Co-Dominance and Incomplete Dominance.

In incomplete dominance, neither gene in a gene pair is dominant, howver in codominance, both are capitalized. Additionally, in incomplete dominance, the colors blend, however in Co-Dominance, they are expressed equally.

4
New cards

How can blood types show simple/ dominant expression and Co-Dominance.

Blood types show simple/ dominant expression as both A and B alleles are dominant to the O allele, and A and B alleles are codominant to each other.

5
New cards

Name what each blood type is compatible with.

A: O and A, not AB or B

B: O and B: Not AB or A

AB: Everything

O: only with O: is not compatible with A, B, or AB

What happens if someone gets blood with a surface molecule they were not born with?

Their immune system will destroy these blood cells

What If W: for white and B: for black in a flower was shown in both incomp. or codominance

Incomp: the flower would be the color as a mix of black and white

Comp: the flower would equally reflect both colors black and white
