Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (W-BST)
An assessment covering verbal and quantitative skills relevant to the LPN entrance exam.
Verbal section
A part of the test that assesses grammar, sentence construction, vocabulary, information retrieval, and reading comprehension.
Quantitative section
A part of the test that evaluates knowledge of numbers and operations, fractions, algebra, geometry, measurement, data interpretation, and applied word problems.
Permissible tools during the exam
Calculators are allowed for both Verbal and Quantitative sections.
Time management strategy
Candidates should time themselves for 20 minutes per section and focus on speed without needing to answer every question.
Information retrieval
The ability to extract necessary information from given texts or schedules.
Percent discount
A reduction in price expressed as a percentage of the original price.
Mixed number
A whole number combined with a fraction (e.g., 3 1/2).
Perimeter of a rectangle
The total distance around a rectangle, calculated as 2(length + width).
Pacing during the exam
Combining accuracy with speed to efficiently complete the test.
Reducing fractions
The process of simplifying a fraction to its lowest terms.
Sales tax
A percentage added to the price of goods and services during purchase.
Clear instructions
Directions that are easily understandable to avoid confusion.
Cautious
Being careful to avoid potential problems or dangers.
Reliable
Consistently good in quality or performance; able to be trusted.
Fragile
Easily broken or damaged.
Transition words
Words that connect ideas and help with the flow of sentences (e.g., however, therefore).
Reading comprehension
The ability to read text, understand its meaning, and answer questions about it.
Data interpretation
The process of describing and analyzing data to extract meaningful insights.
Algebraic expression
A mathematical phrase that includes numbers, variables, and operators.
Fraction
A numerical quantity that is not a whole number, represented by one integer divided by another.
