Electron

Negatively charged particle orbiting the nucleus of an atom.

Nucleus

The central part of an atom, containing protons and neutrons.

Shell

Concentric spheres around the nucleus where electrons are located.

Electron Configuration

Lists the arrangement of electrons in each shell of an element.

Atomic Number

The number of protons in the atom of an element.

Mass Number

The sum of protons and neutrons in an atom's nucleus.

AMU

A measure of mass, equal to the unified atomic mass unit.

Hierarchy of Atomic Structure

Space around the nucleus divided into shells, subshells, and orbitals.

Orbital

A region within an atom that can hold up to 2 electrons.
