Family centered care is a philosophy of care that recognizes the family as the constant in the child's life and hold that systems and personnel are called on to support, respect, encourage and enhance the strengths and competence of the family.
Family centered care accounts for
-parents/caregivers
-siblings
-resources (may define service module)
-environment (impact functional outcomes)
one's view and response to health, illness, and death is largely defined by his or her
-cultural values
parental influences
-coping
-parenting styles
cultural responses to illness or disability
-blame
-punishment
-acceptance
-challenge
for best results always remain
-non-judgmental
ICF children and youth account for
-entire family
-considers body function, anatomical characteristics, activities, and participation
T/F movement impairments, orthopedic impairments, and pain develop over time
-T
Weakness and atypical movement patterns contribute to the development of
-MSK deformity
T/F many adults in OP, inpatient, or acute care PT have dx they received as kids that affected them throughout their lifespan
-T
Childhood disorders can impact
-growth: developmental biomechanics
-repetitive/habitual movement patterns
-learned movement patterns which may be atypical
-atypical joint stresses
PT goals in pediatrics should
-focus on physiologically sound, pain free, functional mvmt over the lifespan
PT in peds should analyze movement patterns and development to impact
-weakness and atypical movement
-bone density
-efficiency of movement
-QOL
-function throughout lifespan
What is the PTs role
-optimize age appropriate function and mobility while planning for long term function to greatest extent possible
-decrease/prevent occurrence of secondary impairments
-decrease use of compensations which may cause secondary impairments
-improve alignment
-prevent or decrease the impact of fatigue, pain, decreased bone density, and psych-soc limitations
