Force
A push or a pull that can make an object start or stop moving.
Structure
Something with a definite size, shape, and purpose that can hold a load.
Gravity
The force that pulls objects towards the Earth.
Friction
The force that resists motion between surfaces in contact.
Tension
The internal force that stretches or pulls a material.
Compression
The internal force that squashes or compresses a material.
Torsion
The internal force that twists a material.
External Force
An external force that acts on an object or structure from the outside.
Internal Force
An internal force that acts from within a structure.
External Forces
External forces are pushes and pulls that come from the outside of a structure.
Shear Force
A force that acts parallel to the surface of a material, trying to slide its layers.
Forces
Forces are pushes or pulls that act on objects.
Compression Force
Occurs when you press from both sides and the structure gets smaller.
Static Load
Something that does not change. The size, position, and direction of this remains the same.
Load
A weight or source of pressure that creates an external force on a structure.
