their active partci0piation can also change their behaviour
take responsibility of the crime
to allow the victim to have closure
make them not feel small and powerless as they have a voice
gain greater unfderstanding how alloing the victim to hear their accoutn
How the meeting works and how its structured p-4
both parties to be present where both have given consent
meeting set at police station or wherever the offender is
if face to face , has to be managed with caution as the goal is to not humiliate each sides
involves introduction from both sides
the person managing is not the leader but sets and agenda
the offender apologises and the edplains the reason behidn their crime
the supporting memeber with the offneder then explains their impact that the crime has on them
vice versa then the victimer talks about how thre certain crime has effected them
outcome of the meeting
the victim is usually keen on the outcome
if other factors such as drug or alcohol abuse played a role in the offence then a drug rehabilitation programme can be set up for the offender
at the end , the trained official sets up a contract which I signed and agreed upon by both the offender and the victim
theory of RJ
Justice should focus more on repairing relationships and not solely on punishment. Modern approaches recognise the wider community’s role.
Effective restoration involves 3 stakeholders, which is the victim seeking reparation, taking responsibility and community support
partical reconciliation is when the offender only takes in 2 of the stakeholders, whereas complete reconciliation takes all into account
the criminal justice act of 2003 allowed offenders to sdo their due dilligance by giving back to the community which is eiuither by upaid work or community service an the offender susally has a probation officierwith them, in this tiem the offender is also able to acquire to learn new skills and it allos them to reintergrate back into society
conclusion
RJ is effective, but holding the offenders accountable for their actions; however, er does not apply to all forms of crimes.
For it to be more effective should be used with other rehbilitation rogrammes and should take a more comprehensive approach for the best outcomes.
