anhedonia, avolition, affect blunting, alogia, attention deficit, apathy, anergia, catatonia

cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia

impaired memory, disrupted social functioning, inability to reason or problem solve

side effects of FGA

EPS, NMS, Tardive dyskinesia, Anticholinergic, CNS effects (sedation, seizures), weight gain

side effects of SGA

metabolic symptoms, NMS, agranulocytosis

dystonia

cramping of muscles (eyes, neck), back spasms, arching, first EPS

treatment for dystonia

benztropine (Cogentin), Diphenhydramine (Benadryl)

Parkinsonisms

tremors, cog wheeling, drooling, difficulty initiating movement, within first few days or increased dose

Akathisia

extreme restlessness, inability to stay still, within first few days or increased dose

tardive dyskinesia

irreversible, lip smacking, mouth movement, blinking, grimacing, arm & leg movements, later stage in treatment

neuroleptic malignant syndrome

muscle rigidity, fever, tachypnea/cardia, labile HTN

d/c antipsychotic, fluids, cool temp, advise provider

Agranulocytosis

decrease in WBC (neutropenia) in response to Clozapine, need blood draws weekly

metabolic symptoms

development of diabetes, dyslipidemia, obesity (monitor labs)

FGA

Haloperidol (Haldol), Chlorpromazine (Thorazine)

SGA

Clozapine (Clozaril), Risperdone (Risperdal), Olanzapine (Zyprexa), Ziprasidone (Geodon)
