What did the battle of Verdun become?
One of the most costly battles in human history.
What was German Chief of General Staff, Erich von Falkenhayn’s plan? What was the major weakness of this plan?
He would fight with all his men because he believed that the French would lose so many men that the battle would change the course of the war. He assumed that the French would be an easy opponent, but he forgot that they would fight back as the Germans are fighting them.
How and What did the flame throwers accomplish for the Germans?
They were used in large numbers for the first time in the battle of Verdun to help them advance the eight miles that they needed.
Due to the lengths of the Battle of Verdun both sides will suffer what? What is the end result?
Desertions and open revolts. Leaving the French to hold the city in the end.

It was to divert German resources.

It was the first battle to use tanks, and they were unreliable. Also this battle was supposed to end WW1.

The storm troopers advanced through enemy lines so quickly that by the 18th army they had run out of supplies.

This battle was the last major battle of WW1. It was the last German battle giving victory to the Allied.

He represented Britain. He feared France becoming too strong and he liked the French, but did not want to give up their colonial power.
What country did Georges Clemenceau represent and what did he want from Germany?
He represented France. He wanted to cripple Germany militarily, economically, and politically. Also to regain the Alsace Lorraine, Rhineland as a buffer. This was all for a guarantee that Germany will not fight back.

He represented the U.S. He wanted to ensure the success of future trading and collect Euro-debt. The U.S. also wanted to establish a lasting peace settlement called the “Fourteen Points”.

Germany lost Alsace-Lorraine (DMZ along the Rhine).
Limited the German army to 100,000 men, no draft, no tanks, no heavy artillery, and no submarines.
War Guilt Clause, meaning Germany was given all the blame for WW1.
This treaty was the peace treaty that ended WW1.

Douglas Haig was Britain’s commander-in-chief during the Somme battle and took much criticism for the sheer loss in life.

Aerial combat between 2 planes or large groups of planes.
