Intrusive Igneous Rock

rock formed from the cooling and solidification of magma beneath Earth's surface

Extrusive Igneous Rock

rock that forms from the cooling and solidification of lava at Earth's surface

Igneous Rock

a type of rock that forms from the cooling of molten rock at or below the surface

Clastic Sedimentary Rock

Sedimentary rock that forms when fragments of preexisting rocks are compacted or cemented together.

Chemical Sedimentary Rock

Sedimentary rock that forms when water, usually seawater evaporates; dissolved minerals in water become concentratedto the oint that they precipitate out of the solution and crystallize

Organic Sediementary Rock

forms from the remains, or fossils, of once living plants and animals that over time pile up and become compacted and cemented together with other sediments

Sedimentary Rock

Metamorphic Rock

rock that has been changed by heat and pressure

Foliated Metamorphic Rock

a kind of metamorphic rock in which heat and pressure arrange the minerals in the rock into layers

Non-Foliated Metamorphic Rock

metamorphic rock that does not exhibit a banded or layered appearance

Foliation

An arrangement of minerals in flat or wavy parallel bands.
