Heuristic Evaluation
A usability inspection method where experts evaluate a system based on predefined criteria.
Nielsen's Heuristics
A set of 10 principles developed by Jakob Nielsen for user interface design to improve usability.
Visibility of System Status
Keeping users informed about what is going on through appropriate feedback.
Match between System and the Real World
Ensuring that vocabulary and workflow align with user expectations and real-world conventions.
User Control and Freedom
Providing users with clearly marked exits and options to undo or redo actions.
Error Prevention
Designing systems to eliminate errors before they occur and to confirm user actions.
Recognition Rather Than Recall
Minimizing memory load by making actions and options visible, such as using dropdown lists.
Flexibility and Efficiency of Use
Allowing users to tailor frequent actions with additional features like accelerators.
Aesthetic and Minimalist Design
Removing irrelevant or rarely needed information from the interface.
Help Users to Recognise, Diagnose, and Recover from Errors
Providing error messages in plain language with potential solutions.
Help and Documentation
Resources that are easy to search and focused on the task with concrete steps.
Independent Evaluators
Multiple experts conducting usability evaluations to reduce bias and improve accuracy.
Hierarchical Task Analysis
Modeling the interface to understand user tasks and interactions.
Domain Specific Heuristics
Heuristics tailored to specific fields or applications, such as healthcare or education.
Usability Testing
Evaluating a system by testing it with real users to discover problems and areas for improvement.
