three criteria for judging the reliability of research documents
authorship (how reliable is the author by their qualifications, bias and relevancy)
sponsorship (how is sponsoring a website and are they the right people to trust for sponsorship)
recency (is it up to date info)
preliminary bibliography
a bibliography that has 15 or 20 resources from your initial search and allows you to weed out the ones you want to use
final bibliography
a bibliography that has 7-8 sources that you will use and have been chosen from your big number of sources from your initial search
4 guidelines to taking notes effectively
take plenty of notes (more is better, you can narrow it down)
record notes in a consistent format (have the note, the source, and the reading indicating the subject of the note)
make a separate entry for each note (organize your notes into separate notes so you don’t get confused and make it impossible to decipher which notes are which)
distinguish among direct quotes, paraphrasing, and your own ideas ( to allow no plagiarism, make sure it’s clear to yourself what needs to be sourced in what way)
