Supply Chain Management (SCM)
The management of the flow of goods and services, involving the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods.
Production Management System
A system that oversees the processes of production including planning, organization, directing, and controlling production operations.
Materials Management System
A system that manages the acquisition, handling, storage, and maintenance of materials required for production.
Just-in-Time (JIT)
A production strategy aimed at reducing flow times within production systems and response times from suppliers and to customers.
Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
A production planning, scheduling, and inventory control system used to manage manufacturing processes.
Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
Information systems that monitor and control manufacturing operations on the factory floor.
Capacity Planning
The process of determining the production capacity needed by an organization to meet changing demands for its products.
Inventory Management
The supervision of non-capitalized assets (inventory) and stock items.
Sourcing
The process of finding and selecting suppliers of goods and services.
Production Scheduling
The process of assigning specific tasks or jobs to resources at specific times.
