Who developed social learning theory, and what was it?
Bandura. Social learning theory is the idea that children watch behaviour, see it being rewarded and imitate it. Bandura believed if children saw criminal behaviour being rewarded they would imitate it.
What was Bandura’s supporting evidence?
The Bobo doll experiment. Bandura shown children an adult being aggressive to a bobo doll and being encouraged. The children who saw this was more likely to imitate this, than the second group who saw the adult being punished for violent behaviour.
Who developed a psycho dynamic theory and what was it?
Freud. Freuds theory was that the mind was comprised of the ID (selfish urges), ego (morality) and the superego (the judge).
How can superego’s affect criminality?
Too weak superego-no guilt (gives into urges). Too harsh superego-individual feels overly critical of themselves and committs crime as they feel they deserve to be punished. A deviant superego is developed normally, however follows an incorrect moral code.
