Narrative Text
A narrative tells a story (real or fictional) in chronological order and includes elements like characters, setting, plot, and conflict/resolution.
Persuasive Text
Text that aims to convince readers to accept a position or take action through clear stance, arguments, evidence, and appeals.
Descriptive Text
Text that vividly describes a person, place, object, or event using sensory details and descriptive language.
Definition Text
Text that explains the meaning of a term or concept to clarify understanding.
Formal Definition
Gives the term, its class, and distinguishing features.
Extended Definition
Adds examples, explanations, and details beyond the basic meaning.
Compare and Contrast Text
Text that discusses similarities and differences between two or more subjects to analyze relationships or choices.
Point-by-Point
Organizational pattern that compares subjects point by point, addressing each aspect for all subjects.
Block Method
Organizational pattern that discusses all features of one subject before moving to the next.
Classification Text
Text that groups items into categories based on shared characteristics to organize information and show relationships.
Exemplification Text
Text that uses specific examples to illustrate or support a general idea.
Pronouns
Words used in place of nouns to avoid repetition.
Personal Pronouns
I, you, he, she, it, we, they.
Possessive Pronouns

Reflexive Pronouns

Subject-Verb Agreement
The verb must agree with the subject in number; rules include singular/plural, compound subjects, and nearest-subject agreement with or/nor; indefinite pronouns take a singular verb.
Transitional Words
Words or phrases that connect ideas and ensure smooth flow; categories include addition, contrast, cause/effect, sequence, example, and conclusion.
