Physical point of where a place is
Place defintion
A location which has different meanings to various people
Locales defintion
Locations in a place that are associated with everyday activities e.g. schools → structures social interactions, people show behavioural traits specific in a locale
Explain sense of place
Subjective emotional attachment to a place which gives it meaning e.g. sense of place to childhood home
Placelessness
Place is not unique, clone towns due to the dominance of chain shops BUT place is about people and diff peopl will interact in the different locales then these places are unique

Attachment to place grows stronger over time = more experiences (experiences have diff level of intensities) = greater attachment, greater intensity
Topophilia
The love of a place having a strong attachment
Topophobia
The dislike of a place BUT may experiences this and sill have attachent but may negative

Distant = far and near place may have more emotional meaning, feel far away emotionally

Places that we actually have visited
argue that you have to visit to create emotional attachment others argue that desire to see or through media = attachment

argue that you have to visit to create stronger attachment
Media sources can change our sense of place subconsciously

The spirit of a place = place has unique spirit or atm, based on location
What is place chracter
Specific qualities, attributes or features of location that makes it unqiue, affected by exogenous and endogenous
What are endogenous factors
Originate from within the place and are local
Examples of endogenous factors
Land use = urban/rural
Topography = the relief and lie of land
Physical geography = natural features e.g. waterfalls
Infrastructure = roads, parks, health care
Demographic characterisitics = age, gender, ethnicity
Location = distance to coast etc
Economic chracterisitics = in debt, again industries, economic sectors
What is exogenous factors
Originate frm outside the place and provide linkages and relationships with and to other places
Examples of exogenous factors
People = impact of tourist is, migrants, refugees, changing number of people over time
Money and ibvestment = trade deals, major events, new businesses
Resources = availibility og raw materials, products, food, water and energy

Waht will happen over time with these factors
Endogenous factors will be shaped by the changing flows of exogenous factors
