monosyllabic nouns which have two consonants before the -is gen. s. ending take ______ in the gen. pl. ending..

-ium

non-increaser

when most nouns have the same no. of syllables in the gen. s. as in the nom. s. take -ium in the gen. pl.

non-non-increaser

when the non-increaser rule should apply but doesn’t.
frater, fratris, m., brother

mater, matris, f., mother

pater, patris, m., father

canis, canis, m./f., dog

senex, senis, m., old man

iuvenis, iuvenis, m., young man

neuter nouns ending in -e, -al, or -ar in the nom. s. have:

-ium in the gen. pl.

-i in the abl. s.

-ia in the nom. and acc. pl.
