Doesn’t want to fight a British-French-Soviet alliance in support of Poland

Wants to avoid a two-front war against Germany and Japan

Wants:

West to destroy each other (Germany Italy and Japan VS Britain and France) to leave Russia to be safely neutral

Japan now left on their own so Russia no longer needs to worry about two front war

1. Pact enabled Hitler a free hand to invade Poland
2. Pact also avoided a war on two fronts for Germany
3. Provided Germany with vital raw materials from Russia

2. Guaranteed Stalin breathing space to consolidate NEPs+ Economy of Russia and internal security
3. Stalin remained open to military alliance to the West

French-British lack of urgency

English+France military mission had very little urgency or priority (Slow in preparation, lack of high ranking members and travelling to Moscow on leisure route)
