Wave Types
Different classifications of waves based on their formation and characteristics.
Tsunamis
Waves that form from earthquakes or volcanic eruptions shaking the seabed.
Crest
The highest point of a wave.
Backwash
The water that flows back down the beach after a wave breaks.
Swash
The water that rushes up the beach after a wave has broken.
Constructive Waves
Waves that build up beaches through erosion and sediment deposition.
Destructive Waves
Waves that erode beaches and cause sediment to be removed.
Circular Orbit
The motion of water particles in a wave, which is circular when the wave is deep.
Wave Breaking
The process where waves collapse upon reaching shallow water, causing surf.
Coastal Landscapes
The various geographical features found along coastlines formed by wave action.
