Islamic Test 2: Surat al-Kahf

9-18

حَسِبْتَ

have you thought

الرقيم

The inscriptions

عجبا

a wonder

إِذْ أَوَى ٱلْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى ٱلْكَهْفِ

when those youths took refuge in the cave

ءَاتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةًۭ وَهَيِّئْ

Grant us mercy from Yourself and guide us

أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًۭا

Righteous way out of our hardship

فَضَرَبْنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ

So We sealed their ears

فِى ٱلْكَهْفِ سِنِينَ عَدَدًۭا

in the cave for many years

ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ لِنَعْلَمَ

Then we raise them up so We may show

أَىُّ ٱلْحِزْبَيْنِ أَحْصَىٰ لِمَا لَبِثُوٓا۟ أَمَدًۭا

which of the two groups best calculated the time they stayed (slept)

نَّحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ نَبَأَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ

We narrate to you their story in truth

إِنَّهُمْ فِتْيَةٌ ءَامَنُوا۟

Indeed they were youths who believed

وَزِدْنَـٰهُمْ هُدًۭى

and We increased them in guidance

وَرَبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ إِذْ قَامُوا۟

And We strengthened their hearts when they stood up

لَن نَّدْعُوَا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِلَـٰهًۭا ۖ

We will never call upon any god besides Him

لَّقَدْ قُلْنَآ إِذًۭا شَطَطًا

or we would truly be saying an enormity

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمُنَا ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةًۭ ۖ

“These people of ours have taken gods besides Him

لَّوْلَا يَأْتُونَ عَلَيْهِم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۭ بَيِّنٍۢ ۖ

Why do they not produce a clear proof of them?

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًۭا

Who does more wrong than those who invent lies against Allah?

وَإِذِ ٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ

When you withdraw from them and what they worship besides Allah,

فَأْوُۥٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلْكَهْفِ

seek refuge in the cave

يَنشُرْ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِهِۦ وَيُهَيِّئْ لَكُم مِّنْ أَمْرِكُم مِّرْفَقًۭا

Your Lord will spread His mercy to you and will make ease for your affair.”

وَتَرَى ٱلشَّمْسَ إِذَا طَلَعَت تَّزَٰوَرُ عَن كَهْفِهِمْ ذَاتَ ٱلْيَمِينِ

And you would have seen the sun, as it rose, inclining away to the right

وَإِذَا غَرَبَت تَّقْرِضُهُمْ ذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِ

and as it set, declining away from them to the left

وَهُمْ فِى فَجْوَةٍۢ مِّنْهُ ۚ

while they lay in its open space.

ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ

That is one of the signs of Allah

مَن يَهْدِ ٱللَّهُ فَهُوَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖ

Whoever Allah guides is truly guided.

وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ وَلِيًّۭا مُّرْشِدًۭا

and whoever He leaves astray, you will never find for him a guiding friend (mentor)

وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ أَيْقَاظًۭا وَهُمْ رُقُودٌۭ ۚ

And you would have thought they were awake, while they were asleep

وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ ذَاتَ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِ ۖ

We turned them over, to the right and left

وَكَلْبُهُم بَـٰسِطٌۭ ذِرَاعَيْهِ بِٱلْوَصِيدِ ۚ

while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance

لَوِ ٱطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَوَلَّيْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِرَارًۭا

if you looked at them, you would have certainly fled away from them

وَلَمُلِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ رُعْبًۭا

filled with horror
