Neuron
Cells that send and receive signals.
Glia
Cells that provide structure in the brain
Sensory nerves
Collects information to sense the internal state of the body or the environmental influences of the body
Motor nerves
Transmits information from the central nervous system to the muscles, organs and glands
Autonomic nervous system
Associated with internal organs. Cancels each other out - e.g speed/relax. The autonomic nervous system includes a network of nerves that extend throughout your head and body.
Sympathetic
Sympathetic division fibres are arranged along the spinal cord in a way that gets them closer to the organ they interface with.
Uses neurotransmitter norepinephrine (noradrenaline) boosts activity
Parasympathetic
Uses acetylcholine (slows down activity)
Enteric nervous system
In charge of digestion, it is local and controlled by the CNS.
