Explain how a voltage is created between the inside and outside of a cell membrane.

Since positive ions line against the outside of the cell membrane and negative ones do so along the inside, the diffusion of ions cannotoccur as easily, since the ions will now be repulsed by the charges at the membrane, hence, the ions attempting to diffuse will hvae to fight against these repulsive forces and there is a volatge created (differenc of potential enegry between 2 points)… when this voltage is equal to the nergy available because of vibrations, it is called resting potential.

What is Nernst potential?

The potential at which an ion stops flowing from in to out— affected by the ratio of ions in and out of the cell like this: Out/in

What equation controls permeability across the membrane in relation to Nernst?

This one:, however, CL- is so close to 0 it can basically be discarded.
