Atmosphere
Mixture of gases that surround our planet
Nitrogen
Most abundant gas in the atmosphere at 78%. Cannot be used directly.
Sunlight
Its radiation is very harmful. (UV rays)
Composition of the Atmosphere
Nitrogen, Oxygen. Helium, Argon, Water Vapor, Carbon Dioxide
Ozone Gas
50km form Earth. Located in the stratosphere. Protects us from UV rays.
Water Vapor
Found in all kinds of precipitation. The amount of carbon decreases from the equator to the pole. Commonly found in water bodies.
Dust Particles
Found in the air specifically in the lower levels of the atmosphere. Particles in the form of sand, pollen and ash
Atmosphere
Without it, Earth would be inhabitable.
Troposphere
The lowest layer of the atmosphere. This is where we live and where weather occurs, turbulence happens, and clouds form
Stratosphere
Ideal layer for flying. This is where the ozone layer is
Mesosphere
53 miles above our planet. Protects us from meteors and falling stars.
Thermosphere
Satellites orbit here. Radio communication and Aurora borealis occurs here
Exosphere
Uppermost layer, gasses are sparse almost no gravity
Barometer
Instrument that measure atmospheric pressure
Evangelista Toricelli
Discovered the barometer in 1643
