Sensation
The process of detecting a stimulus in the environment through our five senses.
Perception
The organization and interpretation of sensory information by the brain.
Difference between Sensation and Perception
Sensation is the 'feeling' or detection of stimuli, while perception is the 'thinking' or interpretation of those sensations.
Gregory's Constructivist Theory
Proposes that perception is a combination of stimulus information and the brain's past experiences.
Gibson's Direct Theory
Suggests that sensation and perception are essentially the same, as the visual signals convey all the necessary information for understanding.
Sense Receptors
Cells in the senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin) that detect sensation.
Visual Signals
Characteristics of an object that help the brain understand its function and meaning.
