United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
Deals with all aspects of travel and tourism globally and provides a platform for government-level consultations and cooperation between member states.
Full members
are sovereign states.
Associate Members
are territories or groups of territories not responsible for their external relations, but whose membership is approved by the state which assumes responsibility for their external relations.
Affiliate members
are international bodies, governmental and nongovernmental, concerned with specialized interests in tourism, as well as commercial and noncommercial bodies, and associations whose activities are related to the aims of UNWTO
General Assembly (UNWTO)
The supreme organ of the UNWTO, meets every two years, and is composed of representatives from all member states.
Executive Council (UNWTO)
Meets at least twice a year, is composed of members elected by the Assembly, and implements the decisions of the Assembly and prepares for future sessions.
Secretariat (UNWTO)
Carries out the decisions of the General Assembly and the Executive Council and is headed by a secretary-general.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
An organization that adopts international standards and recommends practices for regulating air navigation and plans for the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation.
International Air Transport Association (IATA)
Promotes safe, regular, and economical air transport, faster air commerce, and studies problems connected with the industry; also standardizes tickets, prices, and baggage checks.
World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC)
The only global forum whose members are the top decision-makers in the travel and tourism industry, representing the private sector worldwide.
Development Organizations (DO)
Organizations including The World Bank, OPEC Fund, Asian Development Bank, and Islamic Development Bank.
Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)
Organized in Hawaii in 1951, it aims to develop, promote, and facilitate travel in the Pacific area and recognizes the need for an environmental ethic in tourism.
Caribbean Tourism Association (CTA)
Founded in 1951 to encourage and assist in the development of tourism throughout the Caribbean area.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
An international governmental organization representing 15 countries, aiming to establish coordination of national economies for the benefit of countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
National Tourism Office (NTO)
Responsible for the promotion of tourism in a particular country and for the overall development of the tourist industry.
Department of Tourism (DOT)
The primary government agency in the Philippines responsible for encouraging, promoting, and developing tourism as a major socioeconomic activity.
Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA)
Tasked to designate, regulate, and supervise Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZs) as well as develop, manage, and supervise tourism infrastructure projects in the Philippines.
Intramuros Administration (IA)
Responsible for the orderly restoration and development of Intramuros as a monument to the Hispanic period of Philippine history.
National Parks Development Committee (NPDC)
A government agency tasked to oversee national parks in the Philippines, including Rizal Park, Paco Park, and Burnham Park.
