Life under Alexander
People did well economically, he built many great cities, encouraged trade, and built libraries for knowledge sharing and many inventions/improvements occurred under his rule.
End of Alexander's Empire
Alexander's death at 32 led to division of his empire into 4 pieces as his generals fought over who should take charge.
Results of Alexander's Empire
Spread of Greek ways (culture, architecture etc.) across SW Asia, which remained even after the empire fell. Cities he built are still here and important.
What is the Hellespont and the Hellenistic Era
Refers to the spot ATG's soldiers left Greece to go conquer the world. This led Alexander the Great's empire and the spreading of Greek ideas across SW Asia to be called the Hellenistic era.
We talked in class about how ATG should be viewed. Was he a great leader or an evil villain. You are entitled to your opinion but I think it would help you learn the material if you took a moment to think about what evidence you are using to inform your opinion.
Areas to think about would be how he treated the people he conquered, how people lived during his reign, did he make the world better or worse when he died.
What made ATG cry?
Cried when his soldiers refused to go farther and his mapmakers told him he had conquered the world.
Philip II
Ruled Macedonia or Macedon.
How did most people get food in Macedon and how did this help their army?
People survived by herding, which helped Philip's army because it allowed him to have an excellent cavalry.
