Land Biomes- Tropical Rainforest

rainforest has the largest biodiversity of the land biomes because it gets the most sunlight

rainforest is the rainiest biome

stable temperatures throughout the year 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit, with rain makes it very humid

provides much of the world’s supply of oxygen

forest floor is covered with dead flowers, fallen leaves, seeds and fruit that decompose quickly

plants use nutrients quickly which makes for very poor in nutrients soil

not much sunlight reaches the forest floor due to the layers of trees above it

1. emergent layer- tallest trees that ‘emerge’ into the sunlight

2. CANOPY layer- 90% of animal life in the rainforest lives here

3. understory- very shady part, plants here don’t require as much sunlight

4. forest floor- poor soil, littlest amount of sunlight so much plant life

epiphytes- plants that grow on top of other plants without harming them

many plants in the rainforest are epiphytes because they need to get as high as they can for sunlight, and the soil offers no nutrients

plants include nuts, coffee, ginger, cinnamon, orchids, vines, chocolate, over 3,000 kinds of fruit

animals include monkeys, jaguars, amphibians, birds, insects, small climbing mammals
