Brodmann's areas 1, 2, and 3
These areas correspond to the primary somatosensory cortex which receives sensory input from the thalamus.
Homunculus
A topographically organized representation in the somatosensory and motor cortices mapping the body regions based on sensory or motor function.
Thalamus
Acts as the sensory gatekeeper of the brain, relaying sensory information to the appropriate cortical areas.
Primary Motor Cortex
The region of the cortex responsible for the execution of voluntary movements.
Secondary Somatosensory Cortex
Located in Brodmann's area 40, it integrates and processes sensory information from the primary somatosensory cortex.
Striate Cortex
Another name for the primary visual cortex due to its striped appearance in cross-section.
Geniculocalcarine Tract
The pathway that conveys visual information from the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus to the primary visual cortex.
Function of the Cingulate Cortex
Involved in emotion regulation and memory formation.
Hypothalamus
Regulates various autonomic and endocrine functions including temperature control, food intake, and circadian rhythms.
Dorsal Columns
Sensory pathways that carry vibratory and proprioceptive information to the primary somatosensory cortex.
