Combination Oral Contraceptives

Progestin-only pills
contraceptive pills that contain a small dose of progestin and no estrogen
Injectable progestins (DMPA)
Given by injection every 12 weeks and is slowly absorbed into the bloodstream to prevent pregnancy.

a dosage form placed under the skin via minor surgery, allowing the drug to be released slowly
IUD (intrauterine device)
birth control method, a small device inserted inside of the uterus
Mirena IUD
Features drug reservoir of progesterone in the stem. Gradually diffuses in uterus through the plastic; prevents endometrium proliferation ad thickens cervical mucus.
