The Paschal Mystery
The mystery by which Christ saves us from sin and death by His life, Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension

A physical sign that in a real way gives God’s spiritual grace
The Passion
Jesus’s suffering, leading up to His death
Scourging
The Roman punishment of beating someone using a whip with pieces of bone or metal on it; could be fatal on its own
Crucifixion
Roman form of execution by nailing and/or tying someone to a cross until they died
The Agony in the Garden
The night before Jesus dies, when He prays to His Father in the Garden of Gethsemane, and accepts the Father’s will.
The resurrection of the dead (general resurrection)
At the end of time, when the bodies of the righteous dead are raised and reunited with their souls
Incorruptible
Something which does not corrupt, decay, or die.
The Ascension
40 days after the Resurrection, when Jesus enters Heaven both in body and soul
The Harrowing of Hell
Christ descending to the realm of the dead in between His crucifixion
The Resurrection
Christ returning to life after his death, in a transformed body, and so defeating sin, satan, and death itself

One who speaks on God’s behalf

Covenant
A solemn agreement between two parties, which establishes a bond between them
Typology/types
A type in Scripture is when an Old Testament event, person, or passage prefigures or foreshadows a New Testament event, person, or passage. The allegorical sense discovers typology.
Torah
“Law” or “Teaching”, which God gives to Israel at Mt. Sinai
Manna
The bread from Heaven that God feeds Israel with in the wilderness
YHWH
“I AM” or “I AM WHO AM”; the Name of God, revealed to Moses in the burning bush
Genre
A specific form of literature, with its own conventions and expectations
Imago Dei
“Image of God”; refers to God giving humanity a likeness to Him. We have an intellect and will, and dominion over Creation.
Figurative Language
Language which uses symbolism to express the truth in non-literal ways.
Sabbath
The 7th day, the day of rest, on which Gen. 1 says God rests and on which God calls us to worship and rest
Sin
An offense against love of God and others by preferring lesser goods over that love
The Fall
The sin of our first parents, which resulted in the loss of our original state
Original Sin
The fallen state into which all humans are born after Adam and Eve (except for Jesus and Mary)
Pride
To place oneself above God and others

there was no shame no lying. no needing cover and cower from god and others
original justice
we were made in harmony with the world around us there was no pain nor suffering and we had grace within us. No evil
original Holiness
we were in communion with God we were made for a relationship with God and made in his image
orignal solitude
since humans are all separate from other living organisms/ animals we are called to be with another and not in solitude
