What is reliability?
The consistency of a measure or study
What is validity?
Something does what it claims to do
What is face validity?
When something appears to measure what it’s supposed to measure
What is concurrent validity?
The extent to which the results of a test corresponds to those of a previously established measurement
What is temporal validity?
The extent at which the findings of the study are valid when we consider the progressions over time
What is ecological validity?
When the results can be generalised to other settings
What is external validity?
The extent at which the findings can be generalised beyond the study
What is internal validity?
The extent to which the controls have worked and and researcher has only measured the effect of the IV on the DV
What is test-retest reliability?
Increases if a measure yields similar scores on different occasions
What is split-half reliability?
Increases if the odd scale items yield similar score to even scale items
What is inter-rater reliability?
Correlating the judgements of two or more ratings of behaviour to see if results are consistent
What is external reliability?
The extent to which an investigation can be replicated
What is internal reliability?
The internal consistency of measuring instruments
