What is a carbon cycle?
The carbon cycle describes how carbon moves through the atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and Geosphere. carbon is essentials for life and cycles through living organism, air, water, and land
Photosynthesis
Take in C02 from the atmosphere and use sunlights to make food: this process stores carbon in plant tissues (called “producers”)
Respiration
Animal and plants releases co2 back into the atmosphere when they break down food for energy.
Ocean Asorption
the hydrosphere (espically oceans) aborbs c02 from the atmosphere. Some carbon is used by marine life; some sinks to the ocean floor
Combustion
burning fossil fuels or biomass releases stored carbon into the atmospshere as c02
Decomposition
Decomposers (Like fungi and bacteria) break down dead organisms, releasing carbon into the soil (geosphere) and atmosphere.
Sedimentation
Carbon from dead marine organisms settles on the ocean floor and becomes part of a sedimentary rock over time
Producers
Plants and algae that make their food through photosynthesis
Primary Consumers
Animal that eat producers (e.g herbivores)
Secondary Consumers
Animals that eat primary (e.g Carnivores)
Decomposers
organism break down dead plants and animals, recycling carbon.
