Bones

Types of Bones
Include flat, long, short, irregular, and sesamoid bones.
Cartilage
Soft material at the end of bones cushioning the joints.
Joints
Where two bones meet, allowing for movement and flexibility.
Agonists
Muscles that are the primary movers in producing a movement.
Antagonists
Muscles that oppose the actions of agonists.
Concentric contraction
Type of muscle contraction that shortens the muscle.
Slow twitch muscle fibers (Type 1)
Muscle fibers that contract slowly with high resistance to fatigue.
Fast twitch muscle fibers (Type 2)
Muscle fibers that contract quickly but have low resistance to fatigue.
Tendons
Connective tissues that attach muscles to bones.
Ligaments
Connective tissues that attach bones to other bones.
Anatomical Position
A standardized position of the body used to describe location and movements.
Flexion
Bending a joint, such as bending the knees or elbows.
Extension
Straightening a joint, like straightening the knee or elbow.
Abduction
Moving a limb away from the center of the body.
Adduction
Moving a limb towards the center of the body.
Rotational movement
Movement around an axis, such as internal and external rotation.
Osteology
The study of bones and their structure.
Synovial fluid
Lubricates joints and nourishes cartilage.
Fascia
Fibrous connective tissue providing support to the body.

Dancers' self-assessment of their knowledge about anatomy.
Actual Knowledge of Anatomy (AK)
Measured proficiency in anatomical knowledge through a quiz.
