HNA&P: Types of Bone Fractures

Transverse Fracture

break in a bone shaft across its long axis

Spiral Fracture

produced by twisting stresses that spread along the length of the bone

Displaced Fracture

produces new and abnormal bone alignments

Compression Fractures

happens when too much stress is placed on one or more vertebra, causing it to collapse.

Greenstick Fracture

only one side of the shaft is broken, the other is bent

Comminuted Fracture

shatter the afflicted area into a multitude of bony fragments

Epiphyseal Fracture

occurs where the bone matrix is undergoing calcification and the chondrocytes are dying

Pott’s Fracture

occurs at the ankle and effects both the medial and lateral parts of the bone

Colles Fracture

break in the distal radius
