The study of human populations. It looks at population statistics like total numbers, birth rates, death rates, age, gender, and ethnic makeup.

cultural diffusion

When people from different cultures interact and trade, the exchange of ideas, technologies, foods, fashion, language, religion and other cultural elements can occur.

standard of living

refers to the level of wealth, comfort, and necessities available to a person or group

Columbian Exchange

an interchange of plants, animals, disease, people, and culture between the Western and Eastern hemispheres following the voyages of Columbus

deforestation

cutting down forests to use the land for farms, cities, or other purposes

renewable resource

something that can be replenished naturally over time

non-renewable resource

something that cannot be replaced naturally once it is used up

monarchy

a form of government that has a king or queen who rules the country. They holds the position for life and passes it down through their family.

dictatorship

form of government where one person has complete power and control over a country. Citizens don't get to choose or vote for their leader.

oligarchy

small group of people holds the power and rule over everyone else in a country.
