Why is it important for a phlebotomist to know the different tests and tubes?
It is a phlebotomist's job to know what tests they are drawing on their patient.

In plant and animal cells where is the DNA contained?
DNA is contained in a nucleus.
What are white blood cells for?
Fighting off diseases, fighting off the infections.
Where are white blood cells made?
Bone marrow and lymphatic tissue.
What are red blood cells used for?
Oxygen and Carbon Monoxide.
What are platelets for?
Stoppage of bleeding.
If someone is having a problem with their platelets and won't stop bleeding, what tube would they be drawing from, outside of the lavender?
Light blue tube.
What is the light blue tube used to test?
Blood thinners like Heparin and Eliquis.
What are blood cultures for?
To test for infection of the blood.
What are blue tops used for?
Help the blood thin, platelets, medicine dosage testing and testing for blood clots.
What are white blood cells for?
The body's defense, fighting off all the invaders.
What do we call patients with low white blood cells?
Immunocompromised.
What is sickle cell anemia?
Hereditary and most commonly found in African Americans.
What shape are the cells of someone with sickle cell anemia?
A crescent moon.
What do sickle shaped cells lack?
Lack of oxygen.
If a doctor wants to know what is going on with someone who has sickle cell anemia, what tube might they be looking for?
Pink and Lavender.
What is pink mostly done in?
Blood typing.
What is mostly done in lavender's?
Blood count.
What is the word for blood count?
CBC.
