Hue - The purest form of a color without anything added to it. Tint - A lighter value of a hue made by adding white to it. Shade - A darker value of a hue made by adding black to it Tone - A neutral variation of a color made by adding gray to it. Neutral Colors - Colors such as black, white, and gray, not associated with any hue and neither warm or cool. Relief Printing - a printmaking process where raised surfaces of the printing plate or block are inked; recessed areas are ink free. Primary Colors - These colors cannot be made by others, but mixed together can create all other colors. Red, Yellow, Blue. Secondary Colors - These colors are created by mixing equal parts of two Primary Colors together. Orange, Green, Violet. Tertiary Colors - The color in between a Primary and Secondary color. Red-Violet, Yellow-Green, etc. Flat Wash - A technique where paint is layered in a flat, even coat with minimal evidence of brush strokes. Dry Brush - A technique where paint is layered using a dry brush to create texture of the brush strands Wet-on-Wet - A technique where paint is added into a wet surface to achieve a melted, blended effect Score - Scratching the edges of clay before joining them together. Slip - A fluid suspension of clay in water used in joining clay pieces and for surface decoration.
